Looks like a Prius. The price tag should help it compete with Prius in the sales dept., but I don't know about the "killing" part.

Does it eat Prius's as sustenance?

Yep. Also Honda will be giving 2010 Honda Insight to a lucky winner that joins the earth day celebration on April 22,2009.

I don't know about the "killing" part either. I saw part of a panel discussion (C-Span??) the other day on the auto industry and one of the participants was Michael Jackson, (AutoNation, not the weird singer) and he said something about Prius enjoying a huge sales numerical advantage over Honda. I think he said 100 to 1, but I'm pretty sure he was being hybolic, I guess one could look up the sales numbers.

Something about the Prius makes a statement (easily recognizable) while the Honda just has a Hybrid badge on the rear end.

The Honda underprices the Prius, which is why it should sell.

Kinda tough to come up with that number when the Honda product hasn't even gone on sale yet...

Isn't there a Prius hybrid plug-in coming out in either fall of this year or next? That's what I'd wait for.

Wow, great thought process. Obviously he meant the hybrids that Honda has been selling for about 8 years or so.

Oh and I looked it up, for 2007 and 2008 Toyota has been outselling Honda on hybrids about 8 to 1, that includes all models but I think Toyota has more models so it may not be exactly apples and oranges. But I'm pretty sure most of Toyotas numbers are Prius and most of Hondas are

Of course it underprices the Prius, it's a compact, Prius is a "mid-size". The Honda is 2.5" less in length and height, a lot of the loss is in the back seat. With a 6" shorter wheelbase it will probably have a noticably harsher ride.

I think Honda was pretty smart to make it a distinct looking vehicle, as I noted above in Jackson's statement a lot of people who buy a hybride want to be "recognized" as being "green"

Toyota is not going to rest on their laurels.

Personally, and while I haven't seen much less driven the new Insight, I would bet on the Honda to be equally utilitarian, more fun to drive, saving thousands in price and while getting similar mileage (I don't count on EPA ratings, many automakers have started using it as a tool to sell cars but in reality most of them happen to be overly optimistic by adjusting to the "standard").

I'm pretty sure though, Toyota will likely launch something under Prius to compete with the Honda.
