Not sure if this is the correct forum, but we have a GE washing machine... its only about 2 years old. Its designed to where when the tub goes one way, the agitator is supposed to go the other... recently it started making this water swooshing sound. I was able to barely open the lid while it was agitating and it appears that the tub and agitator are going the same way and not "pulling" the clothing down into the water to wash it. This happens on all cycles.

Does anyone know what the issue may be? I am wondering if it could be repaired inexpensively or if its something more major and if we should just purchase another. Our last washer (GE) lasted 23 years. Why dont things like this last anymore?

Some agitators have "dogs" that engage between the upper and lower sections. Those dogs are notorious for failing. The fix is fairly simple as a DIY fix. Someone want to chime in with the appliance repair site?

Thanks! Sounds like it may be cheaper to repair, rather than to go out and purchase a washer.
