That is wonderful Plaidmom! So glad things worked out. I developed large educational public events for two historic sites in So. California so I have an appreciation for what you have done.......it is always a treat to see the inside of nice old homes. So glad you had a positive experience. How is that kitchen coming along? I'd love to see progress pictures.

I'm still in "recovery" mode, but will try to post some pics soon.
We are still quite a way from "finished", mostly due to my pickiness . I sent the cabinets back to be re-sprayed because they were not the ~exact~ shade I wanted. I can't believe I have become this much of a diva . It's a bit embarrassing. I think I understand the mindset now though. After months and months of writing the big checks with many zeros, one starts to become more demanding.
Craziness, I know. I remind myself daily that indoor plumbing and potable water are blessings and that I am a very very lucky woman.

Glad to hear it worked out well, as we all knew it would. It is always fun to experience some time with others who are interested in architecture and vintage houses when you have one.
I like that fact that you are picky, when we have these small "jewel box" houses every room should consistently reflect the quality and detail that the finished, original spaces have.
Would love to see the kitchen progress as well. I am currently starting a kitchen/utility room design for a large historic Prairie Style Craftsman down the street, with the typical awkward layout of multiple doors; even a split stair that comes down into it, and am certainly challenged to make it work, as well look consistent to rest of the house.
Cheers

Plaidmom, I'd love to see photos of your kitchen, too, when it's finished. I know what an enormous undertaking you've got. But I'll bet the tour of your home provided a few people with some good education. I know I got interested in remodeling through house tours. It seems like amazing magic what some people are able to accomplish -- even with totally scary dumps.
I lived for a long time in Pittsburgh and there are many neighborhood house tours there. It started to encourage urban renovation, but they are so popular now you can find them for upscale neighborhoods, middle-class neighborhoods, downtown condos, historic home rehabs, Christmas tours, etc., etc. It's a blast. And much-deserved money for some of the sponsoring charities.
We can get such great ideas and creative inspiration from a good house tour. Thanks for participating!

It was crazy, but it was good.
I learned more about my house and it's history than I could by simply spending the day at the County Courthouse. Visitors were great and respectful and some of our older guests shared stories of growing up in the neighborhood and gave us new clues to our house's past.
The volunteers did an AMAZING job.
We were able to tour all of the other houses on the tour and made many new friends.
Two thumbs up!

Thanks for letting us know what you decided to do. And thanks for volunteering to be part of the house tour. Sounds like it turned out to be a win-win for all!
