Jaimee Alkinani and her husband had just bought their first home in a quiet suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. The house was nice: three bedrooms, tree-lined street, kids riding bikes down the sidewalk, and friendly neighbors who waved when they passed.
63 times higher than what they normally condemn houses for?
City said it was rid of Meth and all chemicals associated with it. Sounds like the city is going to get it's a$$ sued and deserves it. Feel bad for the family and baby.
If it was me and my family and I started feeling bad I would've got the house tested ASAP independently. Then get a lawyer.
I suspect what happened is that the sellers just slapped some Kilz over the walls, then painted this year's light neutral paint over the Kilz and advertised it as 'new paint' without doing the original remediation work you absolutely have to do in order to prevent the toxins from coming up through the Kilz.
And probably got more for the house because painting was then one less thing the buyers had to do at move in time.
It actually sounds similar to a home in my neighborhood (nice middle to UMC area with kids on bikes and basketball hoops and all that) that got used as a meth lab home by some renters, and the owners of that house had to spend something like low five figures in order to get it into condition that they could sell it or rent it out again.
Dont you normally clean a new home before you move in anway. Painting the whole entire house is usually normal to do anyway....
replacing or cleanning carpets is also a thing you do before you move into a house....
Did these people just get the keys and place their furniture and then carry on with life.....makes me wonder?????
No, not all all. Not unless you buy a "fixer". Our current house had 3 year old carpet and a new paint job before going on the market. We didn't do a thing for over 7 years.

Is that really all it takes to decontaminate a former meth lab? Paint and cleaning the carpet? Do you seriously believe that? Is that why when these places are seized, people go in with hazmat suits?
And way to blame the victims. They should have cleaned and then everything would have been peachy!
Forgive me if I've misunderstood, but this is what your post sounds like to me. I feel horribly for the family and their innocent children.
What's so blech about that? Not everyone is as dirty as you.
LULZ @ the dummy that thinks paint and cleaning the carpet is going to rid the place of hazardous waste. Oh wait you're the dummy.
