Hello,
I am in a rental apartment so I can't change the flooring or the tiles around the tub, so my main issue is what color should I paint the walls and the vanity? I would like to hear some specific colors (and their brands).
I would go with a neutral, in the beige family. I wouldn't paint the vanity, but I would bring in texture and color through accessories, like a designer shower curtain.
Agree on not painting the vanity and would go with a browny-tan paint. Would also put in a nice vanity light and maybe upscale towel rod/ring/tp holder (save old ones to put back when you move). Definitely would replace the toilet seat with a white seat. Maybe use aqua blue and dark brown towels.
I would check with your landlord before painting, and get approval on any paint. Check your rental agreement, but most stipulate that the premises be returned in the condition you originally rented them. It would be a shame if you lost your deposit, and were sued.
sanrene: Thank you for your advice. So maybe I'll just add some nicer white paint for the vanity, because right now it is kind of beige-white and with the walls I would like to brighten the place up a bit. So maybe a neutral with yellow in it?
Squirl: I like the idea of upscale towel rod. I will look into getting some white toilet seat. I am a bit worried that the browny-tan might make the place a bit too dark? Not really sure, so I though more yellowish-tan/beige? I bought mirror with silver frame, so it would work with some accesories.
LookinForMayberry: I am actually renting from private owner and she is very nice. The owner told me that I can paint anything that has been painted before and wants me to make it feel like home. But thank you for the hint.
Be sure to get it in writing from the landlord before you paint. I have seen to many cases where there was a falling out between landlord and tenet and the landlord denied saying the tenet could paint or make any other changes. So be on the safe side and cover your butt.
That's a nice bathroom; it doesn't need much work at all! Blue and white always have a way of looking so clean and fresh.
If you get permission, paint the walls and vanity a nice crisp white, and find a shower curtain you like to add color, along with rugs, towels and accessories to match the shower curtain.
You might want to remove the old caulk and replace it, if it's looking dingy (can't tell from the photo). That also does wonders for freshening a bathroom.
