Home Depot's "Ecosmart" brand bulbs: Soft white are 2700K (resembling incandescent warm light), Bright white are 3500k (about as neutral as you can get, not too yellow, not too blue), and daylight are 5000K (as blue as they make them). Most people don't think of daylight as blue, but it is.

While the bulb socket itself may be designed for higher wattages, the maximum rated wattage is listed for safety reasons, whether it's because of the enclosure, shade, and/or heat dissipation. Such a rating comes about after being tested by a lab (UL, CSA, ETL, etc.).

I DO NOT SUGGEST increasing the wattage, as the fixture was rated as such for a reason. At best, nothing happens. At worst, you cause an electrical fire and will get denied for an insurance claim because it was caused by improper usage by the end user.

Why do obviously intelligent people like you make up **** to try to look smarter? WTF is insurance for if it doesn't cover mistakes. When have you ever heard of insurance not covering a fire from wrong light bulbs. Really???

The only way to increase the wattage is to replace the main part of the lighting fixture. Yes, exceeding the maximum recommended wattage can be unsafe. If this fixture does not fix your needs I suggest returning it and buying one that does.

New energy regulations have decreased the maximum wattage in ceiling fixtures and ceiling fan lighting kits. Read carefully before purchasing.
Do you realize that watts have nothing to do with light output?

you do have to be careful with led's though . most are not designed for use in enclosed fixtures and usually state somewhere if they are approved for enclosed fixture use . .

they still give off to much heat unless designed to be enclosed .

no danger of fire but they will fail .
