I want to go from a double kitchen sink to a single bowl kitchen sink....

Currently the outside dimensions are, length is 33 and the width is 22, this is from outside edge to out side edge.

The inside dimensions of the bowls are 29 1/4 length and 15 3/4 width.

Neither of the big box stores can give me a definite answer...

What do I go by?

The bog box stores are pretty useless for this, even if they have right info the generally manage to get it wrong...

The diemesnsions by themselves are not what you need. You also need to know the style of mount -- undercount, drop in / self dimming or flush mount.

I'm doing exactly the same thing, but my husband hasn't installed it yet, so I can't give you the final outcome. I looked for and bought 33" by 22" but you have to be very careful because the model numbers can be misleading. The Elkay CR3122 is supposed to be 31" by 22" but the Houzer 3122 is 33" by 22". Go figure. I was very disappointed in the selection of single basins in this size that were deep and heavy stainless. We have our sink, faucet, and under counter water filter and as soon as I get the disposer we'll be ready to install. I'll post if there are any problems with the size, but I don't expect any issue with that. Gool luck!

Sheepie2000, so what you bought a 33x22 and it fits from outer left edge to outer right edge, sitting on top of the counter measurement?

Yes! But it will be a few weeks before we install it since I haven't ordered the disposer yet. I should probably go ahead and do that tonight. My only concern is that the sink is so deep and the disposer so long, that I want to make sure it will all fit.

Thank you!!!

I do not currently have a disposal, but want one.....

Yep, I agree..we need to measure to make sure that we can accommodate the plumbing for a disposal.....

It will go good for you!!

Let us know how it goes...

If you go to most sink manufacturers they have dirctiong on line and it shows the exact cutout demensions for different models. Or most retilers will be gald to print a copy if ask just as they will for other appliances.

It will likely fit, but your main problem will be the height of your disposal outflow in relation to your drain pipe's height going through the wall. When we bought our house, I didn't realize the disposal's outflow was at the height of the drain pipe (maybe even a little lower). What happened was the sink would plug up about every week (I always accused the wife of stuffing too much stuff in the disposal). What was actually happening was that gravity wasn't helping clear the pipes, maybe even hindering because it was an uphill push. The solution was to drop the pipe in the wall about an inch to get a positive down flow. I think the sink has plugged only once since the fix (too much stuff and not enough water flow).

I also recommend getting at least a 3/4 hp disposal. They do a better job of chopping up waste, creating finer pieces which are less likely to plug the sink.
