I have one 36 inch long "hollywood" light over the double sink which I have always hated.
So my first thought was be nice to have 2 smaller lights one over each sink? But that requires holes in the walls and so on so not sure it would be worth it.
I'm not wildly in love with the idea of a another 36 inch fixture though even if it has nicer shades or something. I can't be the only one who hates looking at multiple light bulbs, surely?
The chance that any replacement fixture can make use of the original holes is about zero. Even if the fixture has the same overall dimensions, the location of the mounting hardware is probably different. You might luck out if the new fixture's base happens to be larger than the old one and hides the original holes.
Holes in drywall are easy to patch. However, if you don't happen to have any of the original wall paint left over, or the wall was painted many years ago, you'll also be re-painting.

No, you’re not! You either live with it, or you change it. However you change it, requires work, repair, repaint, etc.- it’s a given! Either do it, or don’t!
I replaced mine with little issue. Found something online. Cut the power, remove the bulbs, unscrew the fixture, pull out and unattach the wires.
Then take the new fixture and reverse those steps.
I had no trouble with mounting it. Sometimes you have to change the mounting plate that comes with the new fixture, that's just another couple of screws once you have fully removed the old fixture,
Now, if you want to replace one with two you'll need electrical work and drywall patching. Personally I would just find the same size fixture but nicer than those cheap ones builders love.
Just curious why you found this an odd question apparently. I was wondering if i could learn from people who had already done it and maybe avoid a mistake or they would suggest something I had not thought of. Always easier to learn from other people's mistakes than make my own.
Thank you for the suggestions. I may just go for "less ugly" rather than all the painting, drywall, et. I just kind of figured that since these were like the most obnoxious lights ever it would be easy to find something "better" and so far I was kinda like "eh". I mean they aren't worse certainly but I really do not think it needs to look like an airport runway in there. Even an airport runway with nice shades. But that is why I look. And asking is free. Always the chance someone will say oh I found the coolest thing. . .
You can defnitely get nicer vanity lights... Is the vanity 60 inches? Trying to get an idea of size .
The current one is 36 inches but trust me, you can get nice 36 ish inch vanity lights that will be way nicer than the hollywood beauty lights.
Do you have a preference for finish? (chrome, nickel, gold, brass , black etc)
Whichever lights you choose, I suggest they face down toward the mirror, not only for better lighting for you, but also because you will get fewer bugs and less dust accumulating in the fixture(s).
