I moved in to a new apartment last week and in one of the bedrooms I Found a strange looking vent I'm not sure what it is if its some kind of system to filter the air or what.
The “cover” does resemble a fart fan cover… not a typical register.
Have you tried to remove the cover to see what’s behind it? If it’s typical galvanized or fiberboard square/rectangular duct, then it’s just a branch for the bedrm.
In typical apartment form, HVAC duct is usually covered within the apt with a lower ceiling or soffits- such as that in your pic. Where is the air handler in relation to this soffit?
A “filtration system” in an apartment?
Calling BS on that! Could it be a return? Maybe- but in the ceiling?
And from the pic, it would appear that there’s only a small fraction of the ribs that are actually open…hmmm.
