That's where I'm at right now. But I'm not sure I want to spend $2k+ on labor to do the 450 sf bedroom... I keep thinking it's just laminate, I could do this... If you don't mind me asking, how much per SF is the labor rate where you are?
I just did a 10 x 16 ft room for $500 cash. It was done in 4 hours. I had quotes of $750 plus and I found this guy. I give him a $50 tip so $550 total.

Ok, you managed to find a guy to install laminate you bought elsewhere. Cool! I wasn't having any luck with that. That's what I originally wanted. Best I've found so far is a quote for $700 to install laminate that I bought through their company (it's a Shaw laminate) 450 square feet in slightly complex room. Sounds like $700 for the size I have is probably a good deal then.

I am in the wrong business. That is great money for an easy job.
The hardest decision on any flooring project is choosing the type of flooring. What's in style? What floor best suits the quality of life I have? What's the easiest and therefore cheapest flooring to install?
Hard flooring has really improved over the years. Now the have laminates that are very water resistant, even.
I have installed luxury vinyl tile (glued down to concrete). And I've installed a lot of conventional hardwood flooring. And I found out that refinishing hardwood flooring is no big deal. I've built a number of bathrooms from scratch and I do better tile work than the professionals. And I put down 900 square feet of laminate in a basement.
But I've seen my daughter's very nice home not sell on the market because the laminate flooring was simply not up to the quality of the rest of the house. Walking on it sounded tinny--on a slab house. She recently had a leaking dishwasher get under that laminate, and replacing the entire floor cost her greatly.
So picking a flooring is such a difficult decision with so many different colors, styles, widths and materials to choose from.
Note; I've been in Lumber Liquidator's warehouses. Many people don't realize they're located in a small southern town about 80 miles south of Nashville. It's a huge operation.
Has anyone mentioned room transitions and doorways? Be sure you know exactly how these will be done, before you start. Is the adjacent flooring the same height?
DH has DIYed all the engineered floors here, but it is click lock so not nailed or glued. Once you get the first row square, it’s a piece of cake.

Yes, I mentioned this in post #17! Flooring itself is simple, even for a person with moderate abilities, it’s all about the details, transitions and base, IMO.
