For what kind of light? If you have just an overhead screw-in bulb get an adaptor screw-in motion sensor for it. I put one in my basement and it works very well. I bought this one a couple of years ago before the price nearly doubled!
You can just reaplce the light swtich with a motion sensor switch and then use any kind of light that you want to. They are cheap and they work great. The only problem I encountered is that you apparently cannot use one at both ends of a four way circuit. You can have a motion sensor switch and a regular switch, but two motion sensors do nto seem to work
I have always mounted an inexpensive motion fixture designed for outdoor use as supplementary lighting. As long as you have fairly high ceiling and get a wide angle detector it can work well to turn on the light when you step into the garage.
We have an opener with a light when we open the large door, florescent lighting for when we are working in the garage, and the motion detector light for when we step into the garage to grab something (also have laser markers with motion switched to aid car positioning).
I have used this configuration in four different homes with good results.

Buy a different model.
Since I'm in California, I must use Title 24 compliant products in new installations. For 3-way/4-way applications, use the Leviton IPP15-1L at the main junction and IPP0R-1L at the additional locations.
Replacing the switch with a motion sensor works great, with the one downside. You have to remain active in your garage to keep the light on. Once the light goes on, it goes on a timer, and if it senses no motion, it goes off when it times out.. If your walking around the garage, you're fine. If you're sitting at the work bench working on a watch, the light will go off.
We installed motion sensors on several offices at work. People who were just sitting working on the computer, discovered they had to flail their arms around once in a while, or they were sitting in the dark...!
There are motion detector switches for the lights in your garage door opener. We have two and find that the lights come on as soon as we open the door from the house. The delay until turn off is settable. Look at the Chamberlain website.

We did ths as well. It's cheap (unlesss you need a professional to install it,) and it works great. The motion sensor activates when either garage door opens, giving us lots of light when we come home at night.
