I didn't see a thread on this topic.
We bought this small, New England house the summer of 2015. Because my BIL has a coal stove, we got one too. The primary heat has been electric, which is insane for this area.

The stove has been up and running now for about a week. Serious learning curve for us, as beginners. We are learning about it on the fly. I have to say, I have to unpack my summer clothes. It stays pretty warm in here!

Anyone else use a coal stove? I'm curious about storage for bulk qty too, if anyone has ideas. There's also a great coal stove forum that's very helpful.

Reach out to C-D member 'thecoalman'. This guy knows coal.

Here's a link to one of his posts on the topic.

Yep. Ignore everyone but coalman on the subject. It is his area of expertise.

Fascinating topic. I've researched wood, pellet, corn, and even vented natural gas stoves for accessory heat but never coal. For my application vented natural gas would be the most cost effective but less "fun" compared to say my father's pellet stove where you can enjoy the flames without the hassle of hacking up wood. I already have an old 1977 "earth stove" that came with the house.
