I throw these under the woodshed and on the floor in the basement. It dehydrates them and they run outside looking for water. In ten years I only found one body.
It's also good for baiting cars that sit, they love to nest in mom's old Benz. Every fall I put two in the wiper cowl, one under each seat, and one in each wheel well of the trunk. Mouse free since.
What ended up working for me is getting to the source of entrance (as far as the kitchen went). I removed the base cabinets and flooring and found holes in the sub floor. I had new sub floor put it, replaced the base cabinets, and haven't had a problem in the kitchen since.
I'm having my basement remodeled this summer. Demo starts in two weeks. Once demo is done I'm going to have every possible crevice cemented in. Hopefully we'll see the effects of that this coming winter. I've found whether it's bugs (had a bee problem for years) or mice, finding the entrance is key- if possible. Easier said than done!
At my parents' house we have had good success catching mice with the d-CON No View, No Touch mouse traps baited with peanut butter. They were bought at the dollar store.
