Have a small one bedroom house... probably not much of a chance to add on anywhere in the future really.
The bathroom is pretty small... 8'x5' or so. Currently has a bathtub along the back wall. It's a decent bathtub; not one of those new cheap ones. It's also a bath/shower combo.
I'm not a big fan of the bathtub. But would I be making a mistake to rip it out and put in a tiled walk in shower? Assuming the market for a small 2 bed one bath is likely a single or couple with no kids, this probably isn't a huge deal for resale, is it?
I had the same issue in a condo I remodeled and asked this same question. General answer was if I was concerned about resale to keep the bathtub; I did. The place sold no problem to a single man.
We have the same setup, small bath with a tub/shower. I am fine with it as is, even though I almost never fill the tub.The tub/shower is more versatile than a walk-in shower. Unless you have mobility problems or some other specific reason to do the remodel, IMHO it would be money wasted, and I do think it would make the house harder to sell. FWIW this old 928 sq ft house of ours, built in 1950 or thereabout, has mostly had families with kids in it - not large families, but 2 or 3 kids was not unusual amongst the previous owners I have found anything out about.
I am a huge fan of walk- (or roll-) in showers. BUT, only of there is at least one other BR in the house with a tub.
You say it's a 2/1. Don't forget single parents when thinking about re-sale! Someone with young kids will want a tub, whether those kids are there full-time or on weekends.
Sounds like most posters are on the same page.
