Whoa, if the water heater is new so is the anode.

Worth checking into.

BTW, bottled water mostly comes from wells. (many here in Michigan)

A spring in fact would be very contaminated.

We are seriously considering having a tankless heated water system put in. Had that before and was happy with it. The neighbors told us the water contains a lot of copper in our area. It is what it is--maybe we'll put in a water conditioner. Meantime I'll try the CLR cleaner. Thanks for the suggestions.
