I have been researching propane bbq grills (under $200) and haven't found one that gets really good reviews. Can anyone suggest one that gets pretty good reviews at that price? Thanks much.

Since they stopped using lava rocks to diffuse the heat (made by the gas burner)...
all they really are is outdoor broilers.

As to price...
Like lawnmowers... at each price range they're all basically the same regardless of brand.
Often they're **exactly** the same.

hope that helps.

did you do a search on city data (search tool in top ribbon)? There was a recent thread about this topic and the contributers all seemed to favor a specific Weber model.....

Here's the thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/house...r-holland.html

also, if you do a search, I noticed there are a few grills discussed in the "Product Review" forum

We have had good luck with Weber grills. They can be FIXED if they break as parts are available and any reasonably handy person can repair them. We bought one in 1995 and when we moved into our current home in 2010 we gave it away to a friend who is still using it. We replaced some parts along the way but 15 years later it is still working.

Here's the thing with grills...you can either spend $200 and get a grill that will last 3-5 years, or you can buy a Weber for $300-500 and it will last you for 10+ years (really more like 15+), that will perform better from day one. With the cheaper grills you will have problems with uneven heat, inferior burners (which is why they usually seem impressive with a higher number of BTUs, that just means it takes more to heat the same as better brands), and things will fall apart and rust sooner. Also, I can vouch for the fantastic customer service of Weber...I accidentally broke a piece taking the cover off too hard and they sent me a replacement piece free of charge, along with very good instructions on how to replace.

At that price point I would either get the Weber Q (tailgating grill) and purchase the adapter for the big propane tank or I would get the simplest (no 5-in-1 cooking systems, no rotisseries, no gadgets) non-infrared grill with at least three burners and the highest BTU output.

...OR I would build a wood coal grilling station in the backyard for about the same amount.

I just bought a STOK grill from Home Depot... my fiance was in love with the interchangeable inserts (grill pan, pizza stone, and griddle), so I got it... I love it. It was probably one of the easiest grills to put together (on my 5th grill).

I have made pizza, pancakes, steaks, grilled vegetables (in the grill pan), etc. Have not had a problem yet! I think it is $249...

For the value and versatility, it is a great grill.

For the OP's price range I'd be checking garage sales and Craig's list for quality Weber grills and the likes where someone is getting rid of theirs only because they have upgraded to a "bigger/better" model. You can always replace the grates and such to make it more like new on the inside if the rest is in good condition.

Good to hear from someone who actually owns one. I've been curious about those STOK grills. They look like the most versatile medium grill on the market. Just wish they made it a size or so larger. If they did I'd probably sell the OP my Weber.

The STOK isn't too bad on space... I was able to use the grill pan while cooking 8burgers and 3chicken breasts.. no problems.
