The good thing about my attic is that it's wired for electricity and has fluorescent lighting throughout. Also, there is plywood sheeting that runs the length of the middle of the attic, from one end to another and acts as a floor. All I would have to do is stand on that floor and top off one side with insulation, then the other side.

So stay away from the Green Fiber? The brand name is more expensive, but if it's less hassle, I will go with that.

I have lighting in the attic too. It didn't really make a difference. At some points during installation, I couldn't see 12 inches in front of my face. But they do make a low dust formula. If I had to do it again, I would use the low dust Green Fiber.

Another thing is I read somewhere Green fiber is 3x as heavy as fiberglass for the same amount. I don't know if it's true or not but something to think about and research if you're adding a lot of insulation.

I used the pink owens corning blow in fiberglass insulation in my attic years ago. It worked very well and surprisingly had very little to no dust at all. I think the only dust that got flying was mostly what was already in my attic. Normally working with fiberglass insulation makes me itch but that didn't happen with this stuff. My friend who was loading the machine down below said his skin never got agitated either.

I don't know if the cellulose has a better R-value now than it did before but when I insulated my attic it only took 20 bags at $20 each of the fiberglass to achieve the same R-value as 70 bags at $7 each of the cellulose going by each manufacturer's specs.

Yeah, I agree. What we have up there now is fiberglass blown-in. I might as well do the job right and cover it with more fiberglass. I did a few online calculators and I will probably purchase 30-35 bags. The machine should be free to use with that much being purchased.
