I've had a big ant problem in the kitchen for 7 days. Based on one web tip, I washed down all my counters with vinegar, wiped vinegar around the window in the kitchen and at the doorway thresholds. I didn't see any this morning. I have no idea where they are getting in.

I'm wondering, though, how often I'd have to repeat this. The site I found the info on didn't state.

Update, for those curious. One application of vinegar seemed to work. I haven't seen one in 2 days. So that's a pretty simple solution to wipe down everything with vinegar once they seem to have "found you."

This will kill the queen.

1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp.boric acid
Heat water in microwave and mix everything together

Get empty margarine container or 2 with covers
Poke holes around the bottom high enough and big enough so ants can get in and out.
Poke holes all the way around
the more the better.
Put cotton balls in the bottom so they will soak the stuff up.
pour the stuff in on top of the cotton balls.
don't put to much so it leaks out of the holes.
put cover on and put where you see ants.
Let them drink it and bring it back to there nest.

Drugstores have boric acid for around $5.00

OK, I purchased my spray bottle and I'm ready to do battle with the ants. The boric acid will be next, but it's more dificult to mix up, and I'm lazy. We'll see what happens...!!
Minutes later: The counter has been sprayed... I'll keep you posted on results....

Good luck. I didn't want to do the boric acid thing either--unless I couldn't solve it any other way. Genocide felt a little extreme to me. I just want them out of my kitchen. For now they seem to have gotten the message.

It would make me curious where they go now. If I can't see them, I can't take care of them
Ants should be eliminated not redirected.

Maybe they are at my neighbors? She has a sweeter television and sound system than I do and her fridge is better stocked.

I started seeing a line of ants from my back door to my kitchen counter...I made sure that everything was spotless, but I would still see them. I noticed they must've been hiding under the wood that separates my vinyl/rug. My husband had some ortho pest killer in the garage, so he sprayed that in the entire area - especially soaking that wood. I haven't seen anymore ants...it's been about 3 weeks.
