How do you remove glued and screwed down wood floors?

Seriously, glue that is used to put down wood floors is very aggressive, and does its job very well. Trying to sand it off will result in using LOTS of sandpaper, and produce a gummy mess too.

No joke - I think it's the closest thing you can get to the stuff you dip tool handles in to put a rubber coating on them. I've scraped it from a concrete subfloor without too much trouble, but removing it from plywood would probably be a nightmare.
