I have a covered patio that has a few leaks here and there. There is a roof layer and a ceiling layer. The ceiling layer is currently unpainted plywood. Is there a paint that I can apply on the ceiling which will allow water saturation and a few drops to occur without causing it to bubble?

The unfinished plywood ceiling is not appealing and I would like to paint it white. I know a typical latex exterior white paint would trap the water causing bubbles and peeling. Curious if I can paint it with something before replacing the roof in the next 2 - 3 years. If so, with what?

Thanks!

Just paint it with some cheap white primer, it's pretty porous so any leaks should go right though it, although it will likely leave a brown stain. Personally I'd be worried about fixing the leak first though.

Find and fix the cause of water penetration.
(hint: the fix won't be paint)

Even if such does exist...

OK; I'd suggest a light blue with white trim.
But whatever color scheme you choose comes AFTER the fix is done.
