No work was done to the floor. He just installed a new flange. The latest plumber just installed a double wax ring. I think I am going to pull the toilet and try something like this guy did.
Bumping this thread, pulled the toilet again. Found out that the plumber did not replace the flange. We have a cast iron flange that is just sitting there. No sign of screws. Guessing that the weight is holding it in place. So, I added a spacer to get it slightly above the tile. Was able to use two screws but I am worried about its stability. I couldn't use any more due to the cast iron flange. I have tried this before and it worked for a bit. I think the toilet rocks because the cast iron flange isn't secure. So, this time I used a wax less ring which won't fail as easily from the rocking. At least that is my thought.
Have already told my wife that when and if it fails again we will rip up the tile and put down a new sub floor and then start over.
Awesome advice here - I have had to re-seat m toilets due to my kids being just too hard on the seals, and certainly could have used Johnny Shims! Next time, I'm going to use them.
Oh! I should add - I've seen plumbers get up and kneel directly on the toilet using even pressure and their own weight to help the wax seal really grab. It's worked for me.
