Both of my bathrooms have tub/shower combos, but when I remodeled them I used to 12x12's for the shower walls. Much better than those old gold 4x4's from the 70's.

I did use bigger grout lines for the bigger tiles though, but I keep them sealed with grout sealer so it's not hard to clean.

It isn't to say you can't use larger tiles, just be aware that the larger tiles may be more likely to break or create a safety hazard.
These two things pretty much answered the thread...

Best thing to do is have the contractor who messed up your cabinets repair them.

Thanx for the replies on this but a local upscale tile place had their install crew do it - of course, the crew didn't speak a word of English. No response from anyone and it has been a couple of years. So I'll do it myself. I suspect I can do a better job than they can anyway. Warning to anyone else having tile people using that epoxy grout; cover EVERYTHING!

You may what to try a clay bar that they use in the auto industry to remove stuff like this from the cars paint without damaging it.

If you do use MEK be very careful with it because it's real nasty stuff that you should never get on you are inhale.
