Hi all,
We're about ready to build a small cabin (about 1300sq) out in the country. It has 2 bathrooms. Was wondering what kind of septic system would be best for a weekend cabin? Any advice?

Check with the County Zoning/Code office.

Most of the time you will not have a choice and if you do... it will probably be a limited one.

As to choosing... the old fashioned gravity drain-field would be the least costly... both to install in most cases and to maintain.

Some of the new designs require pumps and chambers and even maintenance contracts.

Also, once it's installed, fill it with water. Light weight tanks can "float up," if they are left empty.

ALWAYS do septic first. Code/zoning can have requirements that make some places effectively no-starters for a house or cabin. There is a whole process involved, permits, perk tests, approval, plans, approval, construction, approval, approval of the approvals. It goes a LOT easier when you follow the rules.
