We have a 7 foot high fence around our garden. It keeps the deer out. The rest of the property is fair game for the deer and other wildlife.

Before installing the fence we had motion activated sprinklers. They worked although we did have to move them occasionally because the deer learned to avoid them. Now that we have the fence we don't need the sprinklers, although I've been tempted to use them near our front door to discourage the door to door solicitors!

That may be true, but in the 19 years that I have lived in my house, no deer have ever jumped my 6 foot fence.
I can easily see them in the fields behind my house, but they have never invaded my property.
