We are currently renting a house that was built in the 30s-40s and I found a pair of beautiful wood doors with glass in them that go in the sun room in the front of the house. I noticed that they have no hinges, but have a spring loaded pivot that would bolt to the floor, and a something to pivot from on the top of the door frame. These doors seem to have been removed after carpet was installed (there is a patch of wood where the door would bolt to the floor surrounded by carpet) I would like to re-install them, but I am having trouble getting them to slide in place. Is there a way to get these installed or do I need to loosen/ remove the carpet?
Since you're renting- contact your L/L. He/she maynot want them installed. Or, ask him to have them installed. The number 1 rule of renting- if you f#&k it up, you bought it!
I strongly suspect the reason LL removed the doors is that a prior tenant, with little kids or small statured pets, found them less than safe. Same thing happened in a house I owned /once lived in / rented out. Little fingers can get too close to the moving pinch points / sock pets in the nose...

I don't think that will be to big of an issue seeing how it's my mother-in-laws house. She also said that we could touch up the house a little.
