Condo from 1970 with popcorn ceiling never removed. What are real chances that is not asbestos? 1%? I even asked the guy who is doing the testing in the area and he said he gets negative only if they removed it after and put new one. Yes I agree I am paranoid and freaking out bc we just bough overpriced condo with asbestos and didnt know about it. I would never want one with asbestos bc as a kid I was where asboestos was and dont want to have more exposure. Even the manager of the building said I cant tell u if there is, even if I know. What does that mean? He knows there is asbestos. I want to have it tested but deciding to spend 600$ on someone coming or if I should risk it and test by myself. In this meantime I am treating it as asbestos as the chances are super high and almost impossible not to be asbetos. And I have clothes and stuff there what I need to either use or throw out so I need to know what to do with them.
What would you guys do with the stuff what was rubbing against popcorn asbestos ceiling (clothes, pillows, backpacks, plastic bags, open plastic bags...). If I see white powder is that asbestos or could it be just the paint? How deeply is asbestos if it was maybe painted. Could be the powder from rubbing get into open plastic bags? Please recommend if to throw it out or how to clean! Thats all I want to know!
Is there any profesional asbestos cleaner what would know the right procedure and how to do it the right way without any risk? Thanks!
I call BS. There are clear real estate laws about the disclosure of asbestos on any transaction.
Here we go with another asbestos mitigation promotional social media posting.
Nela - find a naturopath that will suction your lungs out with a HEPA vacuum. Breathe lots of air infused with Himalayan salt and pine needles. Be sure to bag your spit and throw it in a toxic waste container. Throw out all of your clothes and become a nudist. Beware of any and all white powders, such as sugar, salt, cocaine, lye, flour, baking powder - ALL of those can kill you!!!
Your obsession is not a reality. This gets tiresome.

No need to be as*** lol. From what i read on internet (since I do not have 1000$ dolalrs to talk to some specialist and have no idea even if they exist or where to find them) some ppl take this really seriously and say do not touch it, do not do this, do not do that... even how the sample should be taken on youtube (special mask, special clothes...) and knowing it will forever stay in your lungs and even smallest amont is not safe. So of course ppl freak out and are confused and looking for what to do. So I wanted to see what ppl say, but so far this forum is just laugh at freaked out ppl and give them a big sh** instead of give them advice. Rather tell me, hey, I am profesional, or working with this, or did a big research and there is scientific proof there is no asbestos on your stuff and you can go and even sniff it, or tell me, wash it, handle it with super care, wipe it down and then all is ok, or throw it out, the asbestos will never go out of it and you dont want small exposure if you dont have to, or whatever. But no need to tell me to breathe pine needles!
I am from canada so i do not think so I think our law is if you dont know u dont have to tell when selling condo.
Well, if you would read some actual verifiable information about asbestos risks (Hint: ambulance chaser websites are not verifiable information) you would have found out that asbestos is a significant health risk for workers who breathe large amounts of asbestos dust for an extended period, generally in conjunction with long term smoking. It is not a significant hazard for people who have a casual exposure or where the material is not suspended in breathable dust clouds. The methods to deal with this casual one time possible exposure are well known - washing, disposal, encapsulation.
And you don't even know if the white dust you're worried about has any asbestos content, and you resist having it tested, so it sounds like you'll never know.

Again, I say BS. Not every particle of anything will, by definition, stay in your lungs forever. Ask any smoker who hacks up loads of brown sputum, ask any doctor to show you how the lungs attempt to clean. SOME material can get caught and not expectorated. So, the first part of your extremist claim is a lie that is easily refuted. There are other materials that can also get caught in the lungs and cause disease and death. Plain old carbon, the stuff you breathe in when you open a bag of charcoal, can cause black lung disease. Some sands, like that stuff at the beach, can cause silicosis. The lead used in paint, and that was ubiquitous in auto exhaust can cause disease. Popcorn salt can cause disease. So, the second part of the extremist desire to make asbestos unique is also shown to be pure bunkum.
The father of one of my schoolmates died of asbestosis. He was the chief engineer in a talc mine. The disease is real, and he was at high risk. None of his family died of the disease, and they were around his work clothes and the dust daily. The one child of his that did die died from a baseball hit to the chest. So, the next part of your irrational fears is also patently false. Asbestos exposure is not an automatic death sentence.
Now, let's talk about just who is being out of line. There are a couple possibilities for the reason you come, as a stranger to the forum, and make an initial post filled with the same extremist rhetoric we have read before and regularly debunked until the member was banned as a troll. The first possibility is that although you have taken time to read extensively the frightening stuff on the internet about asbestos, and taken time to watch youtube videos, you have not bothered to even begin to read this thread's previous posts or any of the other threads on the subject here. There is also another possibility, given your style of presentation. The irritation of many forum members here at the repeated fear mongering by that individual as a disruptor has, over time, reached a boiling point. Attempts to interact on a rational and reasonable basis have all failed. Patience has been exhausted.
The disease of extreme irrational fear IS a disease that can and does kill, and may be more deadly than asbestosis and even more so if it devolves into mass hysteria.
Ok guys I just came here for an advice how to clean stuff what were close to asbestos. So thank you very much for all your great advices. From whatever I just read I can just say that this is definitely not the right forum for professional or helpful advices as almost all the advices are very unprofessional in every way. Thank you very much and have a nice day!
FFS, spend the $ and have it tested if you truly are this panicked about it!
Of course I am going to have it tested. Not sure why someone said here I am not going to. But I also said number of ppl from the building or from test asbestos lab told me it will be asbestos (it would not be only if previous owner already removed it and he didnt), so testing it and getting conclusion it is positive, is not going to resolve this situation. Only if someone who is working in test lab here can confirm that 50% of condos from 1970 with popcorn ceiling has no asbestos and until I get the results I can still hope there is high chance there is none. Anyone? Neverthless even if by some miracle it would not be asbestos, this building is so old that I would still want to know what to do in case my stuff are affected by asbestos bc it is in garage and other places for sure as well as I heard.
If you are this panicked about it, move out and find a building constructed after asbestos was no longer being used. You'll find a way to make that happen. End of problem.
