I have had a Goodman HVAC system in my house since 2004. (The heat is natural gas, and in the attic as is common in ranch style homes in the South; the air conditioner condenser is outside.) This system has been completely reliable and a good solid system for me, which is more than I can say for my prior Lennox system despite its higher cost and reputation. Bear in mind that in New Orleans air conditioning is used much more than heat, but right now it is 40F outside and I am warm and toasty in my house.

I would recommend a Goodman to anyone.

Gas or Electric?
New install or replacement?
Can the contractors you've contacted do a Manual-J calculation? If not, keep looking. If they can, they should be able to do a Manual-D and a Manual-S.
The devil is in the details. It should be more about the install quality, attention to detail, and installing the right (size) components. And not so much about brand.

I have used Carrier for many, many years without catastrophic failures; but, I could have easily used Rheem, Trane, or others.

More important than the brand is the quality of the installation and the care it receives afterwards.

My mother had a goodman furnace installed last year. She has been pleased with it. The only comment I can make is that it seems loud. When I went to stay with her, the first time it kicked it on it startled me. Could be her model or the fact her house is small.

I had a split zone system in my old house back in WV, heat pumps with gas furnace back-ups.

I really liked them quite a bit.
