Different strokes for different folks. Not every step needed to install a fence is needed in every state.
In Illinois is is necessary to call Julie before you install a fence. The utility companies come and mark where their utility lines are buried underground; they do not mark cable or notify cable companies. . Also, if you want a solid fence it is necessary to install it deeper than the freeze line. The freeze line is much deeper in Chicago than in SoIL.

Building a wooden fence is a good option! If you ever consider a more permanent solution, concrete may be your choice to go!

That is the key (cost wise) as to saving money doing it yourself - having the tools to do it!

Those tools (like an air compressor) can cost more than paying a pro to do the job.

I agree Concrete is the way to go if you are looking for a permanent fencing solution. The climate where i live is very humid and rains like half the year. A wooden fence (cheap wood) just doesnt last.
