A large TV has been sitting on the living room carpet for about a year. A decorative metal trash can was upside down on the carpet, so that a large ceramic jug would sit on top.
There must have been some moisture underneath, over time.
The rim of the trash put a rust ring on the blue carpet.
The imprint of the bottom of the TV is seen on the carpet, and it indicates the presence of moisture, over time.
I vacuumed the area and it looks somewhat better.
What solution is best to clean this area of carpet, beside good ole hot clear water, drying, and re-vacuum?

Thanks.

Impressions on carpet will fade with time- it's a matter of the fibers rebounding. Some people have had success enhancing the relaxation by putting ice cubes within the indentations.
As far as the rust stain- it's there forever.

Not all of the impressions are blue, some are white since that area had be exposed over the 1.5 years to moisture.
The reason for moisture under the concrete floor is that my house has no crawl space, built on a slab.

I guess some stain remover for the white areas.

Even if built on a slab the concrete should have had plastic barrier under slab to avoid that problem. Done correctly a slab foundation should not have that mositure problem.

Rust stains can be removed. The issue is that the carpet color could get bleached as well. Try lemon or lime juice and salt in an inconspicuous tiny spot. If it doesn't work, get some tequila.

Resolve in the foam can, helped the entire area a good bit. The "white" is gone from the minor moisture area under the TV that set there for 1.5 years. The rust is hard to see with the naked eye, and that area is now under a chair.

I'd try a tiny dab of a product called CLR (Calcium/Lime/Rust). It's mostly for toilets. Dot the spot in a small test area, then blot with a clean cloth (NOT a paper towel) You can possibly help the carpet fibers stand up again by hitting them with a shot or two of steam from your iron, then lightly brushing the fibers upward with a cheap hairbrush that has thin/flimsy nylon bristles. Bissell also makes a pretty good small carpet cleaner/scrubber for less than $100.00

Best bet? Call a professional carpet cleaner. Get a coupon or internet special price from your local pro, and when they show up to clean a couple of rooms for $50.00, show them your trouble spot. They'll clean that (if it's cleanable) and a couple of rooms for next to nothing.

I have had great success with a product called "Whink Rust Stain Remover" that comes in the brown bottle. You can find it online or at your local hardware shops (larger companies like Lowe's and Home Depot do not sell it) for no more than $8.00.

For the price its awesome. Just remember it is a very strong acid, so open a window and use gloves. Here is some info on it.. Good luck!
