This is the worst year i have seen. I live in a timberframe house with cedar on the outside and yes, they are destroying it. I have boards that have come off above my garage and they drill sideways and eat all the wood out. I have fought with wasp spray and tried plugging. I have counted over 200 holes around my house. Its a nightmare!

I just got ours under control. This year was bad. I had to construct a special trap and it took a week to start making a dent in the population. They had really gone after the deck this year.

All you need is WD40 in the spiffy can with the attached straw that pivots. This is important. Dont get regular WD40 with the loose straw.

The reason for this is because the bee tunnels dont go straight into the wood. They make a sharp turn and run sideways. You need to insert the W40 straw in the bee tunnel and manuver it so it gets into the sideways part before you squirt the WD40. Next time they go in or out they get it on them and croak. WD40 is toxic to Carpenter Bees. Other stuff too or so Ive heard so bee careful breathin it.

Default Wd-40

Try using some WD-40 put the straw in the hole and spray!!!! They will come out and die and the wood is preserved !!!

The woodpeckers come in after the carpenter bees and open up the large holes. If you spray and kill the bees, the woodpeckers will leave them alone.

We got them bad every year and had our pest guy come out and spray. Then he moved away.

Saw a tip from a friend that you take plastic grocery bags, stuff them with a few empty ones and tie it up, it looks like a hornet nest to the bees. I hung them up close to where the bees would drill and they went away after a couple of days. Magic.

But I do enjoy the swatting with the badminton racquet too.
