The one with summer winter is also connected to a humidifier is that positioned correctly? For some reason I feel up and down is the open position. My upstairs bedroom doesn't get that much heat. It is a very big room with just a king bed and night stands maybe that's why. But before I changed position I wanted to ask to see if this could possibly be only for humidifier.
As LI said- handle "should be" the indicator of the baffle.
In both pictures the handle is perpendicular to the duct- that would indicate "closed". Handle parallel would be open.
I joined this forum in a search to answer basically the same question. I get that perpendicular is closed, but which parallel position is open? The duct damper valve I have goes both parallel positions, i.e. one pointing to the the humidifier and the other away from it (towards the furnace I suppose).

Thanks for the reply, but no need to be snarky. I figure either is ok, but I can't see inside the duct, and I'm no expert. From rotating the lever, it doesn't feel like anything is moving at all.
