I lived in a house for 35 years that had a huge front porch and a smaller back porch. Great for parties, watching the rain during a thunderstorm, just sitting at night with a beer..... I miss it a lot but I'm working on it at new house.
Yeah, we've done all of the above on ours. Its like a nice extended sitting area for the bedroom. The dogs love sitting up there and watching people go by.

> Is the neighborhood a front porch type of place?
~30% of the houses in the neighborhood have no porch at all - not even the partial porch that we are considering. Others are a different model - they have ~5x10 feet porches.
I haven't read all the posts, but I prefer a front porch, based on the two elevations you posted I think porch or no porch is a wash in terms of appeal. although i do think if you go with the porch you should also go with the wood siding as a wood porch may look a little funny with brick facade.
I wish I had a covered porch. great to sit out on all the time, especially in the rain.
