I would prefer a gas or electtic range without the computer controls, motherboards, etc. A new one, not an old greasepit I would have to clean and get tested. Also on gas, pilot lights instead of sparkers. And have the stove be the modern style.
The more computers that go on appliances, the more breakdown likely so it seems.
If you have the money, you can get beautiful classic stoves completely restored and cleaned and spiffed up better than new. Anything fomr the 1950s (about $5K restroed) to the 1920s ($5-30K).
I don't think there ever really has been a combo unit though with that kind of split, large freezer and little fridge. It's just not something that's called for by most folks; otherwise it might exist. The closest I've ever really seen is an even split, like big side-by-sides that are really separate units. You keep saying there's so little in the other fridge though, doesn't sound like you need another fridge. You just need a freezer. They do come in various sizes and designs, not all as ugly as I thought. Doesn't necessarily have to be a commercial type glass-front one to be short enough for what you're talking about. If you do need that backup fridge too I guess you'll need two pieces, but fridges also come in various small sizes.
Have you seen a decent sized low (counter height) freezer that opens on the front, not the top? If so do you rememebr where?
That may work. We would have to get two that size and a fridge the same size. As long as the three of them on one circuit do not blow the breaker, it should be good. We can build a cabinet arond/over them and the aviary above. We will have to have a small fan to blow the warm compressor air out, but that can keep the finches warm in the winter (aviary will connect through the wall to an ourdoor aviary so in the summer, the finches can go outside. Not I just need to figure out whether the circuit can handle the laod and whether I can find some cheaper (looking on Craigs List).
Does anyone know whether a 20 Amp circuit can handle the load of two small freezers and a fridge
So I just replaced our kitchen appliances. I moved to this home a year ago and it was time to update and get new.
I always liked that our dishwasher was "quiet" so that is what I was looking for.
I wound up getting the Fridgidare Gallery in all the appliances. I almost got a different dishwasher but happened on one that when I opened it, it said "quietest."...So it became the winner. It is totally quiet and we love it.
I liked that the Gallery had nice handles. I really dislike the round tube look that is on so many. These have two types of silver on the handles. One are is very smooth, the other more the look of the fridge'.
The microwave cost us more but it also is a convection oven and is suppose to cook cookies and other baking items.
I've yet to try it.
But, we are happy with the purchase and everything is fine now. We did have to return the refridgerator as it was not the counter depth and was an elephant in the room. It was sticking way out and just a pure eyesight. I just love the counter depth one now and it seems just perfect.
No, I didn't get the bottom drawer either. I do not want to dig for frozen food. Just the thought bothers me.
Side by side is fine and I've had one before and adored it. Yes, I could fit our turkey. He might have been standing up, but he fit.
Hurt your back and knees, and then we'll talk about how awful it is to wrestle a gallon of milk in and out of a top freezer fridge. And how you have to bend down and move things around and then go near the bottom to get the lettuce.... while the very act of moving your arms around and picking anything up of any weight while bent over is what makes your back scream...

I'm pining for the day I can have a bottom freezer. We spend a lot more time in the main fridge than we do in the freezer. It would be wonderful to have everything at eye-level.
I would even prefer the old-fashioned freezer-on-top instead of a side-by-side. There is just not enough elbow room in a side-by-side. Too narrow! You have to squeeze things in there AND bend over for the produce bins AND struggle to view everything. It's the worst of all worlds.
I know a lot of people hate refrigerators that stick out. You can buy cabinet-depth ones, but they have less room and cost more. That is one option.
Another option, if you're building a house, is to have a wall of floor-to-ceiling cabinets used as pantry and storage space, with the refrigerator nestled in it. That way, you could build the cabinets as deep as a regular fridge, and the fridge would be flush with the cabinets.
That's how my dream kitchen would be. That way, I could open the pantry cabinets and the fridge doors and see everything I have on hand to cook in one glance.
I HATE bottom freezers. I use my freezer a LOT, and always feel like I have to bend down, and dig in the back, move stuff around to see what's in there. A top freezer is much easier to see what's there. you open the door -- it's already at eye-level and you can see.....no drawers to pull out...no stuff buried under other stuff.
WHY don't they make a French door style with the freezer at the TOP. I'd love the side by-side part on the lower part and the one door freezer still at the top.
I have read some posters on this thread disliking the appearance of a refrigerator ,calling it ugly. At least the modern day ones look better than those from the 40s and 50s. Some looked ok back then but so many had those rounded bodies esp. the top. They never ever looked good to me and my mom had one when I was a little boy. Of course I really didn't care but the new frig's look so much better than those old hulky looking things
