I thought I was the only one with a problem like that. Do you know it is towels only? Do you know why?
Towels were no problem. We hardwired a simple towel warmer.
It took a while but we found out that somehow our washmachine leaked inside and some moisture was trapped between drum and drum housing. Nice and cosy:>( My husband took it apart, bleached it .... I bought a new one:>)
Yes, keep the washer door open ALWAYS after the day's use.
For burnt pans and pots (really, really scorched and smelly): Vinegar also works, along with boiling water, pour both into utensil, then cover in a garbage bag and place outside.
The "burn" will lift off the metal, and the rest is easily scrubbed away. Ammonia works too, but watch out for the seriously injurious fumes up the nostrils.
The ladies over at Home-Ec101.com tackled this issue recently. Home Ec 101 » Blog Archive » Mildewed misery
If the vinegar doesn't work, they suggest you soak the clothes in a solution of 1 cup of borax to every quart of water.
As far as I know, chlorine bleach is the only thing that kills mildew.
Except it also doesn't do anything good for COLORS.
I used baking soda in my laundry today...wasn't mildewy smell, just musty. Came out just fine.
Figured out when I was really looking that my front loader has a bleach only wash to clean it. So I ran that after I did my laundry to clean the inside. Liz
