I just moved in this house that has a small glass opening on the roof directly above the living room. I guess the idea to allow sunlight into the living room. I have lived in many houses and this one is the first I have come across.
I think it's a stupid design with wasted attic, storage and insulation space above. It's been raining constantly for almost a week here. The noise the rain makes against the glass is very annoying. If I wanted to hear this noise, I might as well stay in my car and park it on the street. I hate it.
Is there suppose to be a question in there somewhere? Or is this the whine thread?
"Most" people who don't like something about a house they are considering buying do one of two things. They DON'T buy it, or they change it.
Of course its your call. Looks like its in part of the attic that isn't really tall enough to be functional anyway. Also- it will help save on your lighting bill as well as keep you connected to the outside world. And you'l get used to hearing the rain. Some people like the sound of rain.
That's very odd. If it's a skylight, they call that style a Vaulted Skylight. What makes it odd is the location, at the intersection of a ridge, or the roof and wall. Those are not areas any professional builder would install a skylight. Looks like a weekend warrior did this, and it would be easy to button up.
