My daughter has scratched up my refrigerator doors. It's a black french door refrigerator that has a smooth surface. I was wondering if there are people out there who paint doors. The small patch paint will not work because it's horribly scratched.
How much work and/or expense are you willing to go to, to make this fridge look good?
If you want to go first class, call an auto body shop. Just realize that it's probably going to cost as much as a new fridge.
If you want acceptable, you can wet-sand the fridge door, use a good spray primer, paint it, then clear-coat paint it. I would recommend getting the primer, paint, and clear-coat at an auto parts store. That paint is of a higher quality (and harder) than the stuff you can get a Home Depot.
The same products used to refinish tile and bathroom fixtures can be used to repaint appliance. Generally cost effective in midd/ upper end appliances less than 5 years old...
They make appliance paint if you want to do it yourself. Your daughter can then make some pictures that you can then cover the fridge so any imperfections aren't noticed.
I once bought a refrigerator with scratches and dents from a scratch-and-dent place. I then bought some black cork tiles and glued them to the fridge to hide the imperfections. The cork tiles were used for pinning notes, photos, kids' artwork, etc. It looked great and no one ever suspected why the tiles were really there.
I now have a stainless steel fridge and, although I have no need to hide anything, I got enlargements of 40-year-old photos of my girls, had them laminated and secured them to the front of the fridge with art gripper tape (removes easily)....just for the sake of memories.
You can usually order new skins for appliances. If you want it to look new, that is the only practical chice unless you just buy a new fridge.
