Contact a local realtor and get an informal appraisal. Look at zillow.com and realtor.com to see what comparable homes have sold for.

OK, thanks. Will do.

We did buy the house at a lower price. It was priced reasonably because it needed updating. The renovated homes in the neighborhood are much more. Ugh, we'll see what the realtor says.

Did the cost of your updating project(s) exceed that discount number?
(It would be hard not to)

Have you created a home that is too nice for the neighborhood?
(Granite tops and stainless appliances in a Formica and white stove area?)

If you were staying put for twenty and getting to enjoy the intrinsic benefits of your choices
and expression of your tastes... the dollars wouldn't matter.

-Yes. :-/

-We live in a granite top, stainless appliance type of neighborhood.

Well, who can predict this? Hopefully, but there's a chance we might have to move in a couple of years.

It sounds like you have no idea if you'll have to move, so stop worrying about it. You can't change the market, enjoy your home.

If you're really concerned just pack all your stuff now, just in case.
