Front hose bib, fitting problem:
My hoses (purchased in NC) do not fit on the hose bib (now in WA). I can turn the hose connector a few times, but it doesn't go on far enough to prevent most of the water from coming out the side. I tried a new washer; I tried two washers.

Back hose bib: What is this? And how can I take it off?

Vacuum breaker. If water pressure drops in the mains, it prevents water from being sucked out of the hose into your drinking water. Don't remove it (if it is even possible). There might be a part that was accidentally removed with a hose, since those holes need to be free to suck in air. Print a pic, go to a plumbing supply place or big box store and ask for help.

Sounds like someone removed the VB from the frt HB. The threads are probably a fine machine thread versus the courser thread on the hose connect- hence the reason for the poor connection.

Most AHJ's require VB today. Because of the use of fertilizers and pesticides- don't want to stuff getting sucked into the water supply system.

It looks like standard hose threads on the vacuum breaker. If you remove it, the threads are very fine and a hose will not go on.
Water will usually come out when you first open the hose faucet, but should stop in a second or two. The VB may be defective too.

Why not just put a new hose bib on there. Shouldn't you have a freeze protected bib anyway? I know is gets fairly cold in seattle at times, even snows once in a while.

Changing out a hose bib takes about 15 minutes (plus shopping and getting the tools out).

I have one of those insulating covers for it. It rarely gets cold enough to worry about here.

I think the hose goes on the back faucet (pictured), but the water doesn't go into the hose. It all comes out the little holes. It looks like it needs something to push in that center stem.

Not sure what an AHJ stands for, but it sounds like a good idea to me.
