Redoing the expansion joint "gap" from my main concrete patio deck to a new additional that was added before I even bought the house that started to separate, but as I pulled out all the old joint material the gap was wider than I thought It's 8' in length 1.5" wide by about 6" deep.. usually in the past what I have done was just use some 3/4" backer rod and filled wit self leveling sealant like Sika.
With this being 6" deep I was thinking of filling with 1/3 of sand and then backer rod and then sealant is that advisable? The biggest I've seen the backer rod at the big box stores was 3/4" the last time I looked or do you possible recommend filling with "Reflectix" and then sealant. I just know the sealant is not cheap and want to do it right where is lasts.
