River rock is VERY popular in my neighborhood; in the 20+ years we have lived here, no one has ever had a rock lobbed through their window.

I tried having a rock bed like that and it was too much work for me. It was almost impossible to keep it looking clean from grass clippings, catkins, leaves, etc.. I suppose it would be easier if you have no trees around.

Bag the clippings and blow the leaves - problem solved.

Bagging clippings is too much work and not good for the soil. Catkins are the little things (flowers) that fall from oak and hickory trees in the spring.
