Our house is ~9 years old. It's getting dirty inside on the caulk and some areas on the trim and around windows are cracking. It cannot be wiped clean. I'm curious how to fix it. Do we scrape it off as much as we can and re-caulk?

Thank you

Put another bead of PAINTABLE caulk over the cracked area and finger it smooth. It will fill in all the cracks. Then you just repaint. I highlighted "paintable" because it must say on the tube that it's paintable. We all use ALEX by DAP brilliant white. Silicone blends of caulks are not paintable. That's all there is to it !!

I'd go one step further -- I'd remove the old caulk in the window to replace it with new. The only reason I'm saying that is because I have no idea if there is moisture involved in the old caulk. If there is, just putting new over it will cause it to mildew and rot from the inside out.

It's not hard at all -- use a utility knife to gouge out a chunk and usually the whole thing can be peeled off. Smooth it down, wipe clean with some rubbing alcohol and apply new.

I have to do my bathroom every 2-3 years...
