We have arterial in front of our property. Property has standard set back from the arterial pavement and is connected to it with asphalted driveway and gate.
Several days ago, I found a white paint line across my driveway, approx meter towards my property from the pavement edge, with large letters PAVE and arrows pointing towards the arterial pavement.
Anyone knows what happens next? We assume, they will be widening arterial, entire area is booming, but I do not want any funny surprises.
I found same line in neighbor's private street, east of us, with arrows pointing into the street, and number 10 next to them.
Though it may be a strange concern, reason I am a bit freaking is cuz they already trimmed a lot of properties around here, while widening the roads. They had to expand roads somehow, so they cut people's acreage, and moved fences in. Entire main arterial here in our town was re done this way. I am not sure how it works, did they pay them back for land taken away, or else. But they widen anything they can here.
You own your property. They can't just pave on your land. Property lines are clearly drawn, but there are easements. If fences were moved without notice, your neighbors probably had built fences on county land in the right of way.
Any municipality has to either condemn (rare where I live) or negotiate with you to PURCHASE right of way on any land you own that they need for roadwork. But they have to let property owners know.
Call the county highway department and ask what is planned before the contractors get out there with equipment.
The white marking is an indication of near future excavation. Here, it looks as if they simply intend to widen the road somewhat; it looks to be within the existing right-of-way. I suppose it would be a courtesy of the county (or state, township, whatever) to inform you of their plans.
