OK we really are bad at picking paint colors. Just wondering if there is a site that lists some "model home" type colors, ie standard colors used in living room, kitchen, dining room, bathrooms, spare bedrooms and master bedrooms etc. Or maybe color schemes. House is about 2000 sq ft 3/2.5 in the south east. House is a light blue on the outside.

Biggest issue we have is the living room is 2 stories, goes up to the second floor and open, so can't do anything too drastic or there would be too much of it.

Also I should say we have that standard tan/beige carpet. All the pictures I find have images like you posted, higher end places with wood floors etc.

The problem with searching images (we're about searched out) is you might get one or two colors. I'm looking for a "home in a box" color scheme idea...

My wife and I are painting the entire interior of our (new to us) home, minus three rooms that are already done (two by us and one by the previous owner). We were able to get these sample cards which showed many different combinations from Lowes when we started looking at paint. My wife got some ideas from these in terms of what kinds of colors work together. Now, we aren't painting any trim, but we have an open floorplan in the main part of the house and are painting the living room, dining room, and adjacent hallways different colors. So we had to figure out what worked together because all of these colors will be seen together. It was a bit tricky, but I think we made good choices.

It sure isn't for some people, we both do not have artistic eyes.

I get ideas from browsing through magazines and catalogs. Some magazines have resource pages in the back that tell you the brand/paint color that was used in the photos.

Houzz has TONS of photos for ideas -- just type in the style that you are looking for, i.e. "traditional living room" or "two-story foyer".

I love the Hooked on Houses blog for ideas and discussions on decorating.

Benjamin Moore Paints - Interior & Exterior Paint - Benjamin Moore & Co

Check out the personal color viewer to the left too. I used this site when choosing an exterior color.

You could also try taking pictures of your space and bringing them into a paint store and chatting with someone there.

I'm sure that if you pick up any paint catalog, there are suggested color schemes, sounds like you want to go neutral. Try buying the small paint samples at BM and try them to see how they look in your particular room/light conditions. If you like something and then google it, you will find several discussions. I personally enjoyed the process of picking paint colors for our entire home, but I didn't go overboard, spent just about 2 weeks mulling over this, and it turned out great!
