I recently started a thread discussing the cost to install a ductless mini split air conditioner. It seems that I'd be looking at at least $4,000 for the unit with delivery and installation.
I'm now curious about the cost to install a traditional through-the-wall air conditioner. Let's assume it's a $600, 12,000 BTU unit (which we'd probably need a few of). How much might it cost for a professional installation (cut hole in wall, install sleeve, etc.)? We're in NY.
I guess it really would depend on what the outside of your house is like, etc. We have a fantastic handyman and he would probably charge $100 to do that, maybe?? He's on the low side I'm sure though.
Cost to install is one thing- but can you run "several" at the same time?
Depending on the age of the house, more than one bdrm/common room can be on one 15amp circuit- doubt that would work.
Then there's the operating cost-
As the old saying goes- pay more up front and save over the long haul; or pay less now, and pay a lot more over the long haul.

An entirely reasonable number.
If that install will meet your need it's definitely the way to go.

The Btu size of the unit or the state it's done in really don't affect the work involved.

No one CAN know. We aren't there.
At my BRICK house it would be a much bigger job than at my son's frame house.
Either way... the units will need to have power run to each of them which opens a whole
other Pandora's box of possible issues.
I was simply poking fun at the fact that he completely ignored the question being asked.
I didn't "ignore" the question.
I was merely pointing out- what's the point if you don't have enough power to run them. So, since you failed to see the ramifications of your brilliant idea, I'll just leave it as such.

Hah! Wanting to install air conditioners is a "brilliant idea"! You must sweat a lot....
