Hi, we are faced with more decisions for our remodel and hoping to get some help here. Our bathroom doesn't have a 3 wall for the tub so it will be tiled in, and we want to use subway tile for the tub and the surround wall. But we are not sure if it will look weird to only have that area tiled. What do you think?
Should we wainscot the entire walls with the subway tile? We thought about maybe just wainscoting behind the toilet and the vanity, but leave the other walls just painted. Would it be also weird?
I concur; full height all the way across (no wainscote).
We are planning to go to 7 feet in the shower/tub wall...above will be painted....
so you are saying keep the 7 feet high tiling also behind the toilet? Not drop the height to wainscot height, why?
We are planning to put a cabinet like this above the toilet and could be weird if it's attached to the tile I think.

We just did one of ours with subway tile, and extended it only 6" beyond the tub. We also did a 12" high back splash on the vanity, extending 2" beyond the countertop, but nothing behind the toilet. I guess it depends on the layout. We have the toilet next to the faucet end of the tub, the vanity on the other side of the toilet. We also did a row of 1" various shades of blue glass tile as a highlight
a few rows below the top of the subway tile.

Your elevation drawing shows tile to the ceiling-
Due to the configuration of the tub and the openness of the wet area lend itself to being an accent wall. So having the tile go all the way across and full height will achieve that. Making the tile step down behind the toilet draws attention to the change.
As for that cabinet- don't, they're just awful. Can be head busters and don't store near as much as many think.
If you're having a hard time visualizing the tile- do a little copy, cut, and paste with the elevation drawing.
This bathroom seems ideal for the ceiling mounted shower curtain track. You can mount the track on the ceiling or install a round bar hanging from the ceiling for the shower curtain. Then tile just the area on the wall around the tub.
