Hardwood flooring (installing, family room, carpet, prices)

We are considering replacing carpet with hardwood in the family room. What is the best quality in flooring? What should be looking for and what kind of prices.? Any advice, help is appreciated.

Pay attention to Janka Hardness. This chart is very nice Janka Wood Hardness Scale

Put the wood in the room for at least a week BEFORE installing it.

Go with the thickest wood you can afford.

Probably would suggest to NOT use the Big box stores, usually they are twice the price.
