You have given me lots to look into and think about.
Currently, we do have motion detector lights on the garage which face out towards the driveway/front of the house. The sides and back of the home are still very dark, though, as is the end of our driveway near the street.
We bought a $20 LED battery operated "porch light" the other day and are testing it out. It says that it is weatherproof and can be used indoors or out. So we currently have it on the side of the house. So far, so good, just not sure how it will hold up in our PNW weather, or how long the batter will last.
