I had my ac units serviced and the tech said I had a leak in the coil in the upstairs unit. The actual coil is under warranty but the cost to replace is $1000. Is that in the ballpark for labor for replacing a free part?

I bet that's one of those home warranty policies...

That depends on what else is included with or is required by your install.

The initial call to diagnose?
Some sheet metal work to open/close?
Some refrigerant gas?
The attics are a PITA to work in factor?

With the coil cost ($200-300 wholesale) included...
most shops still wouldn't be over $1000 for the whole deal.
