Hello, I have been reading this post and I am having similar issues when it comes to buying a house. I live in SC and humidity is out of control! If I were to close the vents, add the moisture barrier, and get a dehumidifier, would there be any need for insulation under the floors? I have been told no insulation is best and am currently going this route. The lumber is now treated where the mold grew on some floor joists. Also, the house is around 2,000 square ft. Would anyone know how much money was saved by not buying the insulation?
Thanks so much!!
In a word...no. You don't NEED insulation, but if you choose to install it, then the materials noted by Chad are good choices. Personally, I don't see any benefit to spending the money. Spray foam is expensive.
