My husband doesn't charge anything to unclog our drains. He doesn't even whine about it. If he's out of town, I do it myself, but I do whine about it. Just last week, our kitchen sink started dripping. My son decided it was time to learn how to fix that problem, and he did. Guess what? He didn't charge anything. Plumbing is not hard.

I'm so glad I live in the Southern Mid Atlantic. My licensed plumber charges $50/hr and no trip charge. He doesn't even charge extra for weekends or emergencies. He's got so much business that he starts his day at 7am.

That price is slightly higher (maybe 15.00 more than what I pay). I think it's a lot.

Don't put anything stringy down the disposal like celery, lettuce, asparagus, etc. I clogged my disposal that way.

I bought a small handheld plunger for the sink and it has worked very well for me (saved me a few calls to the plumber for other sinks). Found it in the local hardware store.

I would say $165 for unclogging a sink is excessive! I am a nurse and I travel to patients homes to take care of them all day, and I do not get anywhere NEAR $165 for less than one hours work nor do I get any mileage pay. And I take care of a human life! The unfairness makes me sick. I'm not saying I should get so much more than I do now (but a raise would be nice since I have not had one in years - nor have any of my co-workers). I think plumbers make way too much for what little they are doing.

By the way, I noticed that some here didn't even bother to answer your direct question, they just went straight to judging you for asking a question that should be asked.

The Internet is causing many business models to change for several reasons and one is that all can find out the pricing of most anything. One thing people have been objecting to is the "service call" fee of $xx.xx to show up at your home. I can easily defend it as it covers the cost of having people, vehicles, etc, but it is getting to be a less and less acceptable practice/model.

A local, major plumbing company started to advertise a fixed fee ($89.95 if memory serves me) to unclog any drain. Who do you think I am going to call?

Some will rebut that one does not know what they are going to find and they might just upsell you. True but back to my point. Who do you think I am going to call? Will it be the person that says well $65.00 to show up and we go from there or the $89.95 company?

today I spent 190.36 to clean out my sewer line. That's 125 feet outside. At least it was 55 degrees here today!!!

Another view......

As a business owner I keep my basic call at least $25 more than any competition.

It is $125 and includes 1/2 hour of time.

This is how I weed out people that would nickel and dime the project or, just can now afford the repairs/new work.

Would this $125.00 and the 1/2 hour labor cover say unclogging/snaking out a drain and this is where?

Thanks

Our plumber does an amazing job with stopped up drains, plumbing, and even fixing other things around the house. My wife always makes sure that the plumber is happy with the payment arrangements. Well, I have to go. My wife just told me about a stopped up drain that I have to take care of.
